Sequoia National Park Watchtower Trail

This Week in San Diego Hiking – June 30, 2014

Sequoia National Park Watchtower TrailWe are fresh back from a week visiting Sequoia National Park, and had a fantastic time. We did tons of hiking, saw loads of wildlife, and got in a fair amount of relaxing around the campfire. We’ll be posting pictures and stories from the trip over the next few weeks, so  stay tuned. If you want to be sure you don’t miss any new posts, you can sign up to receive updates via email, or follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+.

This Friday is the Fourth of July, which means a long weekend and an extra day to hike! Saturday morning there will be an interpretive walk at the Wilderness Gardens Preserve in Pala. This is an easy to moderate hike that begins at the staging area and proceeds along the main trail. The Ranger will speak about the first settlers of the early American period. During the hike, they will discuss geography, history, and the flora and fauna of the preserve. The hike will conclude at the Ranger Station with a tour of the Museum. Check out the County Parks and Recreation Guide for more info, or visit our Events page for more upcoming activities.

CBS 8 has a story about a hiker who died last week in Chula Vista. The hiker apparently suffered a stroke or heart attack on the trail, and despite resuscitation efforts died after being transported to the hospital. The report doesn’t mention the specific trail, but it looks to me like it was the trail up Mount Miguel.
