This Week in San Diego Hiking – October 5, 2015

Lunar Eclipse, October 2015
Hello Hikers!

At last it’s October! We’ve had a nice, rainy start to the month – we can only hope that this is a sign of things to come. As we enter what will hopefully be a wet and rainy season, remember that many of the county parks and hiking trails will be closed during wet weather to help prevent trail erosion. You can always check the County Parks & Recreation News & Updates Page for the latest on park closure information.

The San Dieguito River Park staging and parking areas are now on Fall/Winter hours, which means they close at 6pm daily. Make sure you plan accordingly to avoid getting locked in!

Mark your calendars for Sunday October 18th! The 2015 Palomar Apple Festival will be held from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Palomar Mountain State Park! There will be arts and crafts for the kids, games and activities for all ages, tasty apple goodies, and free admission to the park all day. Click here for more information or to register.

Next Sunday get your workout on with an Early Morning Fitness Hike at Daley Ranch. This hike, led by Naturalist Rita Ospelt, includes the southeastern and southwestern parts of Daley Ranch with a side trip up Stanley Peak. The total distance is about 10.2 miles and we will be hiking at a brisk pace. There are some steep uphill/downhill sections and this hike is not suited for children. Visit the City of Escondido web site for more information, or check out our Events Page to find even more upcoming hikes and events!

Amazon has some nice deals on outdoor and running gear this week:

Have a good week!
